Just a few blocks away from us stands a beautiful, empty building in a prime location in Central Riga. Each time a host has taken us past it, it has been pointed out to us. It will, most likely, never be leased due to the very real ghosts that inhabit the building. In spite of remaining empty since 1991, due to its historic architecture and importance to Latvian history, it will never be torn down. It is the notorious KGB building. There is no access, there is a metal memorial blocking the main door. There are often flowers left at the memorial. There are plans to open it to the public this year.
