Gary Lappier

I was born in Washington State in 1975 and received my first camera around the time I was in kindergarten. Some of my most treasured possessions are photographs I took around that time of friends and family members. I began playing keyboards and guitar when I was 17 and shortly thereafter joined the Sumner High School jazz band as a keyboard player, but ended up playing the bass guitar for the majority of our performances. I am most at home in a recording studio or the forest, and I’m usually holding a camera or a musical instrument. When I am not creating I am spending time with my wife Katie and our two dogs, Comet (a beagle) and Mayzie (a basset hound).

The physical process of putting Runescore into action began with me developing a melodic or rhythmic idea for each of my individual runes.

I decided on D major for the musical key of the piece.

Once that was accomplished, I created a drone using a Moog.

I recorded snare drum, sleigh bells, guitars and finally bass.

This gave me almost 5 minutes of each instrument to edit from.

At this point I whittled down each track as appropriate for each rune and it’s given
timeframe - editing for content and time. I mixed the track and added some reverb and
delay.

Once the audio was completed I created the video using my drawings of the original
runes presented to me.
