Star Pasture
14 December 2019 |
After enjoying Winter Solstice Celebration performances by Velma Frye, didgeridoo, flute and drums, and the lighting of the bonfire, we asked participants to select one of the 50 lit large box lanterns to carry on a procession along the quarter-mile, lantern-lined Gin Field trail towards Venus in the clear, star speckled sky.
Once the lantern procession arrived at Star Pasture it spiraled in to a circle in the center, marked by four globe lanterns each facing the cardinal directions. We shared small memory vials with our guests so they could “collect” the breath, the air, the sound, light, the essence of the moment. Joséphine led us all in a sound circle, each lending their tones to the collective voice which served as accompaniment to the 20 minute performance created on-site the week before through dialogic devising with Bridget, Aaron, Scott and Z. Shooting stars added exclamations to the performance. The audience/participants then hung their lanterns on shepherds hooks lining the periphery of the mowed circle of Star Pasture and we gazed at the night sky as mists arose from the surrounding grasses. It was a magical night. |
