Arte Studio Ginestrelle Residency - Altars - 2011
A performance/installation inspired by local ritual processions marking the month of May. Time alters the daily offerings, made from delicate treasures collected on the grounds of Arte Studio Ginestrelle.
As part of our research of Sts. Francis and Clare of Assisi (which inspired our Rule of Life performance), we attended several festivals/processionals honoring Mary at the little churches in the surrounding tiny villages (the local priest commented that we were attending Mass with more regular frequency than the parishoners were). We were struck by the use of ginestrelle (known as Broom in the US) and rose petals to line the pathway of the faithful or create a beautiful "mandela" at the threshold to tiny chapels. PZ
