Window Gardens

Thunderstorms threatened all day long - we anxiously checked the weather reports to see if the project we had worked on for a year would be able to be performed/installed - sitting in the Birdsong house with our collaborators we watched beautiful lightning and rainstorm, waiting for our chance. At 6:30 PM we began to mount the installation - 200 lanterns and 8 large banners - guests started arriving a half hour later. At 8:03 - 3 minutes past the announced starting time - we had mounted all of the lanterns and turned on the LED tea lights in each one of them. At 8:06 PM the performers began.
After our four collaborators, completed their cycle of performance in each of the five garden installations it was decided that it was too dark to repeat the performance. |

It didn't matter, the performance was incredible, the performers were connected to site, to the installation, to each other and the audience and had created a truly moving experience.
A few minutes later, talking with audience members and enjoying the beauty of the installation, lightning announced the impending return of the storm. Precipitation urged a rapid strike of the installation out of the elements. Many of the audience members joined in with the cast to quickly bring everything safely inside.
