LPL: MP - The Process
Sessions 1 & 2: 7 January 2017 and 14 January 2017
Collaborators were introduced to each other as we familiarized ourselves with the technology. We discussed the project goals and considered ways in which we could narrow down on a theme. A private Facebook group and a shared Google Drive folder were created. Collaborators began journaling from the prompts: Mapping, Community, Isolation, Yearning, Connection, Decentered, and Posthuman.

Sessions 3 & 4: 28 January 2017 and 11 February 2017
We brainstormed words from the prompts provided in the previous session. Each collaborator selected four significant words for each prompt from the brainstorming. Four lists of significant words were compiled which were used for four Exquisite Corpse writings in Google Hangout documents. We eschewed traditional structure, all writing at the same time, not waiting turns. The one rule was that each of the significant words must be used in the order that they were recorded. Michèle suggested we begin recording birdsong in each of our locations to capture a sense of place.

Session 5: 25 February 2017
A variation of Exquisite Corpse where each collaborator is given all four significant words from a prompt to create a sentence(s). These are ordered via chance operations. Our homework is to create our sentences for the remaining three prompts that we were not able to get to during the session. After the session a flurry of emails discussing an aleatoric composition model to structure text, movement, sound, singing, spoken word is initiated by Geoff. |
|
Session 6: 18 March 2017
Geoff explained his idea for aleatorically structuring the performance(s) which led to discussion of ways to create sound, visuals, intermedia for the work(s). Joséphine shared the details of the funding she secured to bring us all together during Winter break 2017-18 at the Florida State University School of Dance. Assignment created for each collaborator to record each of the eleven different texts we have created within the same length of time. |
|
Session 7: 1 April 2017
Choreographic rubrics were developed based upon seven significant words selected from each of the four Exquisite Corpse texts. Each collaborator to upload videos of their choreographic solutions along with individual movements connected with each significant word. We all will also record ourselves reading the texts. |
|
Session 8: 15 April 2017
Significant technical difficulties as Firefox no longer supports Hangouts Live and Paul's computer was not responding well to Chrome. We were unable to record the session to Youtube. Each of the Exquisite Corpse movement phrases (EQs) will be expanded by incorporating one movement each from the other collaborators into the original phrase so that each collaborator will have 4 EQ phrases consisting of seven movements and four EQ+ phrases consisting of fourteen movements.

Sessions 9 & 10: 6 & 20 May 2017
Technical difficulties again. Julie Stoverink had multiple issues logging on to Session 9 and had no audio during Session 10 so we transcribed the session via Chat. Bridget's computer has died so she joined 10 late via IPhone. Aigars had bandwidth issues. Each collaborator to read their stanza from each of the seven Four Word texts. Manipulation of the sound to follow. Discussions about potential venues for performance including Fringe Festivals and in Australia. We will take a sabbatical on meetings until 22 July after Paul and Joséphine return from Finland and Latvia.
