Grudge Match: ReMatch is something we had never done before, at least intentionally: a sequel. And, like most sequels, ReMatch has half of the original cast from last year's Grudge Match supplemented by three new performers. This year our performers were asked to create movement and text from their memories of Christmas, family meals and expressions of sibling rivalries. The top Google entry for "holiday family gatherings" is a list of books to help survive the event followed by a survey that shows that seventy percent of young adults (ages 18-22) and fifty six percent of parents surveyed say they've made or answered wireless calls during a holiday gathering. |

Coming home for the holidays invokes nostalgia for a Norman Rockwell version of idealized family feasts countered by memories of those less-than-perfect holidays. Indeed, the urban myth that suicide rates go up during the Christmas holidays is believed in spite of evidence to the contrary. The sparring around a dining table can be just as spirited as one finds in a boxing ring, especially when the rules against discussing religion or politics are ignored. A debate about gun control in my family ended with my oldest brother trying to shove a dish cloth down my throat. - PZ
