Big Dance/Little Space (2010)
Callous Physical Theatre directed by Idaho State University theatre/dance faculty Paul Zmolek and Joséphine A. Garibaldi, will present "Big Dance/Little Space" a festival of dance performed on a five feet by five feet stage in Old Town Actors Studio, at 7:30 p.m, Jan. 29-30. The studio is located at 427 N. Main St., Suite G, inside the Main Street Plaza in Pocatello. Admission is $10.Scheduled performances include world premieres of works by Elizabeth A. Miklavcic, artistic director of Salt Lake City’s Another Language Performing Arts Company; Middle Eastern fusion and Japanese dance inspired works by Chrystal Reece; works by Zmolek and Garibaldi; and excerpts of Bridget Close’s well-received physical theatre piece "Waiting." "As a performer I find the five feet by five feet stage almost scary but, as a choreographer I find the possibilities within the limitations of such a small stage quite exciting," comments Zmolek who is performing in his "XY Suite" of solo male dances. "The intimate setting of Old Town Actors Studio makes this a wonderful venue for this event, promising an unique evening of concert dance and physical theatre," Garibaldi said. "Big Dance/Little Space" is the first production by Callous Physical Theatre in Pocatello since Garibaldi and Zmolek relocated from Tacoma, Wash., to join the Theatre and Dance faculty at ISU. "Big Dance/Little Space" has been made possible, in part, by support from the Pocatello Arts Commission, Idaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. |
