Some days nothing seems to go right. I had glued together two pieces of the bedside lamp after I had knocked it off the table with my pillow the previous night. As I was about to replace it on the bedstand it slipped out of my hand and fell from about one foot, landed on the side that wasn't previously broken and shattered. Jo just laughed.....I didn't think it was all that funny at the time.
We have been invited to start teaching at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) Department of Choreography starting next week. We watched a Cunningham Technique master class taught by Dino Verga at the National Opera House. The theater is quite beautiful and ornate. We really enjoyed meeting him and felt more connected to the Dance world than we have for quite some time. We were planning to attend his final Choreography master class on Friday but Jo was sick so I went out on my own. In spite of Jo's frustrated attempts to explain to me that I was reading the map incorrectly, I took off at the rapid Riga walking pace only to realize that she was correct in pointing out how wrong I was. I stopped, looked for my map and realized that I hadn't retrieved it after giving it to Jo the previous day to help her navigate the bus trip to the American Embassy which, unlike the other embassies, is way out of town.
Next week we also start rehearsals with the 2nd year Latvian College of Culture (LKK) students to create a work for the Ziedona Garden Festival as part of Riga 2014 at the end of May celebrating the "Stories of the Park". One of my students at LKK is the Instructor of the local Capoeira group and has asked if we could teach a master class soon. We will be very busy, very soon.
